SOUND BOXES

Electronic voice boxes exist for bears, but most use mechanical voices. Bears are typically either "squeakers" (squeeze them) or "growlers" (turn them upside down and then right side up). Windup bears with music-box parts playing lullabies came later. The sound mechanism is shielded from the stuffing material with muslin (earlier bears) or plastic (later).
