Here's a horrifying fact from a longer article for anybody who has audio or video material from decades ago:"Audio tape decays, and these were in terrible shape. There was only one recourse, and it was risky: the tapes had to be baked at low heat in an oven, then gently threaded onto a tape recorder and copied. But after being played once, the tape would disintegrate. After two tension-filled days, the tapes were transferred to digital format."This is from a NY Times article which also makes a good read about a struggling musical duo. In it, though, there's a little history of where rock went wrong in the 1970s, with cameo appearances by a member of REM and the guitarist for the 1910 Fruitgum Company (remember "Yummy Yummy Yummy, I've Got Love in My Tummy"?)http://www.nytimes.com/2001/03/04/arts/04WARD.html?pagewanted=all
