  Ragtime Rhythms
Music

Good article in the New York Times today about the resurgence of Ragtime music, this time relatively unvarnished. (The last revival in the 1970s, triggered by "The Sting," pretty successfully masked both its black origins and its pandering to white stereotypes about blacks.) Good music, sometimes jaw-droppingly horrible caricatures and epithets about African-Americans. Check out the article, and if you want some recommendations about what to look for on Napster, ask me. (Ironically, those of us who use it to mostly trade pre-1923, public domain music, are legally in the right, regardless of what the courts ultimately rule about the rest of Napstering.)http://www.nytimes.com/2001/01/21/arts/21WOND.html
