Lunchpail Tales

"Oh, in first grade I had a Superfriends lunch box (with matching thermos of course). It was one of those metal things, so of course once I got to school and saw that the cool kids had plastic lunchboxes, my initial excitement wore off quickly. I had gone lunchbox shopping with my dad that year, and he let me pick out whatever I wanted. As I loved the superfriends at that time, I was elated with my choice, until that first day of school, that is. We even still have a picture of me outside the first day of school where I am proudly holding my great buy.

"That same year my good friend Kim had a plastic Charlie's Angels lunch box way cooler than mine, particularly as I REALLY loved Charlie's Angels at the time. Every day at lunch we would play Charlie's Angels, somehow incorporating her lunchbox into the game. I, of course, always insisted on being Kelly (the Jacklyn Smith) character because she was my absolute favorite. Every once in a while, if Kim was going to get mad and not let us play our game otherwise, I would let her be Kelly, and I would be the Kate Jackson character (Sabrina??). But I would NEVER be Chris; I'm a brunette and therefore had a thing against blondes.

"In second grade my mom MADE me get this stupid Strawberry Shortcake lunchbox (the only saving grace being that it was plastic). I was completely embarrassed the entire year, and carried my lunch via the brown bag for every year thereafter."
